Happy Twosday! Why are palindrome dates like 22.2.22 fascinating ?
Today is a day like no other. After exactly 900 years, many are calling today the Two’s day (Tuesday) because the date written out is identically backwards and forwards and only contains the number two.
The date also happens to be an ambigram. An ambigram is a calligraphic design that appears to be the same when viewed from upside down.
About a decade ago, people witnessed Onesdays with 11/1/11 and it is after 11 years that people will be able to enjoy Threesdays, 3/3/33 and then a Foursday, 4/4/44, about 11 years after that.
As the Farmer’s Almanac notes, there are 10 palindrome dates in February 2022, beginning with 2-2-22 and ending with 2-28-22. Not only that, one of those very cool dates, 2-22-22, marks the birthdate of first US president George Washington. And since Washington also was born in a year ending in two (1732), it’s a nice even anniversary number — 290 years since Washington’s birth. It’s almost too much.
It’s the most exceptional date in over a decade, according to palindrome enthusiast Aziz Inan. a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Portland in Oregon. , who’s also been studying palindromic dates for the last 14 years.
“I feel that these dates have magical power in terms of getting people’s attention, no matter what age,” he added.
The ultimate palindrome will occur at 2.22 am or pm, or at 22.22pm.
