Why this Bollywood legend turned down major role in Oscar-winning epic Avatar

Hold on to your seats, folks.  Bollywood comedy king Govinda just shared shocking news that will leave you speechless.

In a media interview, Govinda, one of Bollywood’s most beloved actors, confessed that he was offered a whopping Rs18 crores to star in the iconic 2009 sci-fi masterpiece, Avatar.

Not only was he offered the role, but it was actually Govinda’s suggestion that the film be titled Avatar.

The king of comedy, known for his enduring charm, turned down the opportunity of a lifetime. Why? Well, according to Govinda himself, it wasn’t the money or the star power that made him hesitate; it was the film’s physically demanding role that had him saying ‘no. ’

In a shocking confession during a recent podcast, Govinda revealed: “James Cameron offered me Rs 18 crore for it and said I would be required to shoot for 410 days. I said that is okay, but if I paint my body, I will be in the hospital.”

The actor, known for his impeccable comic timing, explained that he couldn’t risk his body for a role that demanded so much physical strain.

He also went on to express how difficult it was for him to turn down such a major opportunity, given the massive stakes. “Our body is the only instrument we have,” said Govinda, emphasising that while the job was tempting, he had to think about the long-term consequences.

Conspiracy plot against the actor

Not only did he reject the mega-offer, but Govinda went on to spill even more beans about the backstage drama that surrounded his career. In another shocking revelation, he claimed that he was the target of a conspiracy in Bollywood.

The star alleged that a well-planned defamation campaign was launched against him, orchestrated by some educated industry insiders who were threatened by his success as an outsider in the film industry.

The actor didn’t hold back, revealing that he even feared for his life at one point, saying, “When conspiracies against me began, even attempts on my life started. Many people were caught outside my house with guns, and different methods to eliminate me were being devised.”

The shocking tales didn’t end there, he described his transformation into politics as a reaction to these dark forces working behind the scenes.

While Bollywood’s A-listers are often known for their glamorous lives and public feuds, Govinda’s words shed light on a much darker side to stardom, one that involved real-life conspiracies and near-death experiences.

But despite everything, he remains unshaken. “After these conspiracies, my nature changed,” he said.

“I thought, whether or not I engage in politics, this is how things are.”

As for Avatar, the film went on to become a global phenomenon, grossing billions and securing its place as one of the highest-grossing films of all time. It starred Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Stephen Lang, and the franchise is still alive and kicking with Avatar 3 set to release this December, with Avatar 4 and 5 slated for the following years.
