90 years of High jewellery: celebrating the Chanel way

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend (if you’re a guy and you love diamonds, you do you, we don’t discriminate) and why wouldn’t they be when glorious things like the ‘Allure Céleste’, the dazzling centrepiece of Chanel’s latest high jewellery collection, is now a reality.

Coco Chanel, a woman and a visionary who transformed the face of fashion and luxury in the 1920’s, released her label’s first and only high jewellery collection on November 5, 1932. The brilliance of ‘Bijoux de Diamants’ was an effort to overturn the despondency settled over the world as a result of the devastating Wall Street crash of 1929.

The designs, inspired by celestial bodies and constellations, have stood the test of time to emerge as iconic pieces of fine jewellery that personify elegance and class.

It’s been 90 years since the collection was unveiled to the world, and the ‘Allure Céleste’ is the first of a brand-new line of pieces, aptly titled ‘1932’, set to launch in May of this year to celebrate that milestone. The extravagant necklace features a crescent moon of diamonds that cradles a 55.55 carat intense blue sapphire, a diamond brooch and a comet-esque line of diamonds that ends in a sprawling cluster.

‘1932’ will embody in its designs, the spirit of Coco Chanel’s genius and her knack for always going against the grain, defying what is and creating what will be.
