Abu Dhabi Festival 2026: Music, magic, and culture take centre stage
Abu Dhabi is turning up the volume in 2026 as the 23rd edition of the Abu Dhabi Festival kicks off on April 12, bringing more than 1,000 artists from 19 countries to stages across the emirate, and beyond. This year’s theme, “The Wisdom of Culture,” promises a dazzling celebration of music, art, and heritage that unites audiences from around the world.
The festival will shine a spotlight on the US as its Country of Honour, marking 250 years of American independence and over five decades of UAE–US friendship. It also celebrates 30 years of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF), the powerhouse behind the emirate’s cultural boom.
What’s on the lineup?
Expect world-class performances across Emirates Palace, Etihad Arena, and The Arts Centre at NYU Abu Dhabi. Grammy-winning pianist Jon Batiste opens the festival on April 12 with a soul-stirring mix of jazz, soul, and storytelling. Cellist Hauser follows on May 2, blending classical and contemporary sounds in a performance that promises to mesmerise.
Other highlights include:
- Algarabía, a fiery fusion of flamenco and Arab poetry, is making its Arab World debut.
- American Ballet Theatre and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, including the spectacular Verdi Opera Gala.
- Rising stars like violinist Lisa Batiashvili and pianist Giorgi Gigashvili, plus soprano Sondra Radvanovsky.
- UNESCO World Jazz Day performance by North African-inspired composer Dhafer Youssef.
The festival also embraces the UAE’s rich heritage. The Emirati Recital Series (May 12, 15 & 16) will showcase local talents including mezzo-soprano Fatima Al Hashimi, oud masters Saif Al Naqbi and Mubarak Al Dhaheri, and cellist Elham Al Marzouqi.
Beyond music, the festival goes global. Proximities, an exhibition of 47 Emirati artists, will run at Seoul Museum of Art from December 2025 to March 2026, making it the largest showcase of UAE contemporary art ever held in Korea. Plus, the inaugural Children’s Biennale brings a playful, outdoor art experience celebrating the UAE’s Year of the Family.
Whether you’re an art lover, a music fan, or just looking for a spectacular weekend out, Abu Dhabi Festival 2026 promises a feast for the senses—and a chance to witness culture at its grandest.
