British teen makes history with 27km swim around Dubai’s World Islands in just over 7 hours

Dubai’s coastline witnessed an extraordinary feat as 17-year-old British swimmer Barnaby Ryder successfully completed a 27 km swim around The World Islands in just 7 hours, 32 minutes, and 12 seconds.
The challenge, fully supported by the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC), saw Ryder become the youngest swimmer to accomplish the demanding course. DIMC provided logistical backing, safety supervision, and medical support throughout the event, ensuring a smooth and secure swim.
Upon completing the endurance swim, Ryder was honoured with a DIMC shield and an achievement medal, celebrating his incredible milestone.
Having lived in Dubai for the past 10 years, Ryder has been an active participant in open-water events, including the Jumeirah Ocean Swim Series. His passion for swimming was nurtured under the guidance of his father, and now, he has set his sights on an even greater challenge.
“Swimming around The World Islands has been a dream of mine for a long time,” Ryder said. “Completing it gives me confidence as I prepare for my next big challenge—crossing the English Channel in June.”
The young swimmer had aspired to take on the English Channel swim since he was 12 years old, but his family encouraged him to wait until he turned 17. Now, with a record-setting achievement in Dubai, Ryder is ready to take on his next test of endurance.
