Candy, culture and community vibes: Hag Al Laila Harvest Festival is back at Expo City Dubai

If you’re looking for a feel-good family plan to kick off the year, this one’s a winner.

The much-loved Harvest Festival is making a return to Expo City Dubai on Saturday, January 31, and this time it’s coming with a special Hag Al Laila twist. Expect a one-day celebration packed with tradition, treats, and plenty of fun for kids and adults alike.

Running from 4pm to 10pm, the festival is part of the Season of Wulfa, inviting people of all cultures to experience one of the UAE’s most cherished traditions in a warm, welcoming setting.

Family fun

From the moment you arrive, something is happening everywhere you look. Families can enjoy a camel parade, try their hand at traditional games, get henna designs, and take part in interactive Hag Al Laila workshops. Children will be going home happy with candy bags filled with Emirati sweets, because it wouldn’t be Hag Al Laila without them.

The Community Development Authority (CDA) is also joining in, bringing community-led initiatives to the festival. Expect traditional performances by students from Dubai Schools, Khawaneej Branch, along with kiosks run by home-based entrepreneurs, offering everything from handmade goods to local treats.

One of the biggest highlights of the day is the Rashid and Latifa Duathlon, a fun run-and-bike race designed for children aged 2 to 13. Little participants can bring their own bikes and helmets, race through age-specific challenges, and compete for exciting prizes, all in a fun, supportive environment.

Popular food trucks

There’s also no shortage of things to do for younger visitors, with Emirati-themed games, a bouncy castle, and a Rashid and Latifa meet-and-greet adding to the excitement. Food lovers won’t be left out either, with freshly made lugaimat, shawarma, and popular food trucks like Drip Burger, Yoberry, Philly Jawn, and more keeping everyone fuelled throughout the evening.

Markets will be dotted across the venue, including a local farmers’ market, a White Label retail market featuring handmade Emirati products, and CDA-supported kiosks showcasing homegrown businesses.

Residents can expect culture, connection, and lots of candy, all in one evening.
