Cool contest: your chance to capture Dubai on lens and win dh250,000
If you know your way around a camera and are looking for the next get-rich-quick scheme (we’re kidding), the World’s Coolest Winter Photography Competition, launched by The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Awards (HIPA) in collaboration with the UAE Government Media Office, is your chance.
The competition is being held parallel to the second edition of the World’s Coolest Winter Campaign, which shines a spotlight on the winter months of Dubai. Think: A love letter to winter, but with pictures.
The aim of the competition is to educate residents and tourists about what Dubai has to offer in it’s colder months. It will tell the story of entertainment, culture and nature through the winter lens.
It features a total cash prize of Dh250,000 (we weren’t kidding) and runs from December 20, 2021 to January 20, 2022.
Besides the extremely tempting prize, this competition is sure to add some major cred to your professional identity as a shutterbug. World-renowned photographers like John Stanmeyer, an American photojournalist and winner of the World Press Photo of the Year Award, and Barbara Davidson, a Canadian photographer with three Pulitzers to her name, are among the panel of expert judges. Clearly, they’re not playing around.
All you need is to be above 18 years of age and an eye for a good picture. The competition has two categories. The first, One Photo, is open to the general public and is based on five topics – Desert, Sea, Mountain, Valley and Emirates from above. The second, Portfolio, is for the professionals and covers Emirates in Your Eyes, Emirates Wilderness, Faces from Emirates, and Street Life in Emirates.
So, lovers of the lens, go forth and find a little winter in Dubai. Meanwhile we’ll be here marveling at the godsend that is the IPhone camera.
