Dubai airport’s big change: Immigration services now come to you

Dubai passengers can now complete passport-control procedures without always having to go to a traditional immigration counter.

The new Click and Travel service, launched by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFA Dubai), allows passport control officers to approach passengers inside the terminal and complete entry or departure procedures using mobile biometric devices.

What is Dubai’s Click and Travel service?

Click and Travel is a mobile passport-control service that brings immigration procedures directly to passengers.

Officers use portable devices connected to GDRFA Dubai’s systems to verify a passenger’s identity and complete the required procedure in around 12 to 15 seconds.

Who can use the service?

For departing passengers, the service is available to UAE citizens, residents and visitors.

For arriving passengers, the first phase currently covers UAE citizens and residents, with plans to gradually expand eligibility.

When will it be used?

Click and Travel can be deployed during busy travel periods, when queues are long or when airport operations require greater flexibility.

Priority may be given to families, children and people of determination.

The service is designed to complement existing smart gates and immigration counters rather than replace them.

How successful has the service been?

During its pilot phase between May and August 31, 2026, Click and Travel completed approximately 31,373 transactions.

GDRFA Dubai says the results demonstrate the service’s ability to operate in a busy airport environment and support faster passenger processing.

What happens next?

Dubai plans to further develop Click and Travel and explore expanding mobile services to other parts of the passenger journey.

The initiative is part of Dubai’s wider effort to use biometrics and digital technology to reduce waiting times, improve airport operations and create a smoother travel experience.
