Dubai makes history with world’s largest virtual sign language class

Dubai made inclusion history on Wednesday by hosting the world’s largest unified virtual sign language lesson.

More than 6,000 people across the UAE came together online to take part in the world’s largest virtual sign language class, officially earning Dubai a Guinness World Record.

The milestone moment was part of the Dubai Communicates in Sign Language campaign, led by the Community Development Authority and overseen by the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of People of Determination.

Participants from all walks of life, government employees, private sector teams, residents and citizens logged in to learn the basics of Emirati sign language, turning a virtual classroom into a powerful statement of unity, awareness and accessibility. The achievement smashed the previous world record set in 2017 and underlined Dubai’s growing focus on inclusive communication.

Officials say the record isn’t just about numbers. It reflects Dubai’s wider vision of building a city where accessibility is embedded into everyday life, from public services to smart technologies. The initiative also supports the goals of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which places social cohesion and quality of life at the heart of the emirate’s future.
