Dubai opens applications for Harakat Sikka, a stop-motion animation journey for creative minds

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority is calling all aspiring storytellers to take part in “Harakat Sikka”, a dynamic stop-motion animation and visual storytelling training programme under the Sikka Platform.
Running from August 18 to September 26 at House 436 in Al Shindagha Historical Neighbourhood, the month-long programme promises to turn creative ideas into cinematic magic, with no prior experience required.
Open to UAE nationals and residents aged 18+, the course welcomes students, artists, filmmakers, designers, and writers eager to bring their stories to life. Delivered in both Arabic and English, it blends hands-on training with artistic exploration.
Learn from a master
Participants will work closely with acclaimed director-artist Boubaker Boukhari, known for his experimental, folklore-inspired stop-motion style. Meeting three times a week, they will dive into every step of the process, from concept development and storyboarding to filming, editing, and strategies for festival submissions.
Hands-on creative workshops will cover
Character design
Visual arts techniques
Audio recording for animation
The programme culminates in a public screening of participants’ projects during the Sikka Art & Design Festival, offering a real platform to showcase their work.
How to apply
Applicants need to submit short written responses about their motivation and interest in animation, along with a CV or creative portfolio (if available). The deadline is 8 August 2025.
