Dubai’s Meydan Racecourse to host rare supermoon spectacle during Friday night races

Dubai’s Meydan Racecourse is gearing up for a spectacle unlike anything fans have seen before, and it won’t just be on the track.

This Friday, December 5, the Cold Moon, the final full moon of 2025, will rise dramatically over the Meydan grandstand at around 5:48pm, creating a rare celestial backdrop during an active race night. According to Dubai Racing Club (DRC), this is the first time a major UAE horse racing event will coincide with a supermoon perfectly aligned over the venue.

To make the moment even more special, DRC has teamed up with the Dubai Astronomy Group, giving guests in the Paddock Garden access to telescopes and astronomy experts who will guide visitors through the lunar spectacle, all while soaking in the race-night buzz.

Visitors can enjoy the view along with bites from some of Dubai’s favourite eateries, including SALT, McGettigan’s, Little Fox by Rowley’s and Yamanote Atelier.
Paddock Garden tickets are priced at Dh75 and available on dubairacingclub.com or platinumlist.

Gates open at 4pm, the first race starts at 5:30pm, and the supermoon rises shortly after, so fans can expect a picture-perfect evening on and above the track.

Other spots in town to catch the Cold Moon:

Al Qudra Lakes

If you have a 4×4, drive out to Al Qudra Lakes for a darker, more secluded sky-viewing experience. Its location far from city lights makes it ideal for spotting celestial events. You can barbecue in designated areas or grab a quick bite at Last Exit Al Qudra, just 9 minutes away.

Hatta

Nestled in the Hajar mountains, Hatta offers impressive views with minimal light pollution once you move deeper into the range. Just under two hours from Dubai, it’s also a great place for overnight camping, if you can handle the heat.

Jebel Ali Beach

Pack a picnic and head to Jebel Ali Beach for a serene, unobstructed view of the Moon from the shoreline. There’s plenty of parking if you prefer to stay in your car with the AC running while enjoying the view.

Kite Beach

One of Dubai’s most popular public beaches is also open at night, making it a great spot to watch the Moon while enjoying the ocean breeze. With restaurants open until midnight, it’s ideal for those who prefer a late-night bite over a picnic.

The Viewing Point – Dubai Creek Harbour

This architectural 70-metre walkway offers panoramic views of Dubai Creek, the Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai. While it’s not a picnic spot, the harbour area below has benches and several waterfront dining options.
