Emirati Field Hospital in Turkiye embodies UAE’s humanitarian approach

The Emirati Relief Field hospital in Gaziantep in Turkiye – which along with Syria was the epicentre of a massive earthquake on February 6 – has begun its humanitarian mission of saving lives soon after it was equipped with medical, technical and administrative teams. It is the first Level III field hospital in Turkiye aiding local relief efforts.

The 40,000 square-metre hospital, which has 50 beds and four ICU beds, was inaugurated in the presence of UAE Ambassador to Turkiye Saeed Thani Al Dhaheri and several Turkish officials. The inauguration took place as part of “Gallant Knight 2”, an initiative launched by the Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence.

Al Dhaheri said that the field hospital was established upon the directives of the UAE’s leadership and embodies the country’s humanitarian approach and commitment to stand by victims of conflicts and disasters around the world. The Emirati team in charge of the field hospital has coordinated with Turkish authorities to identify the basic and urgent needs of victims, he added. The hospital was set up in record time and medical cadres deployed on a priority basis. He thanked Turkish authorities for providing necessary support to its medical team in carrying out its humanitarian mission.

Staff Brigadier Dr. Abdullah Khadem Al Ghaithi, Commander of the Emirates Relief Field Hospital, said that the departments at the hospital include emergency, outpatient, surgery, intensive care, radiology and dentistry. It also has a laboratory and pharmacy. It is classified as a Level III field hospital as per international classification because it performs critical surgeries.

The medical team includes psychologists who are there to help individuals suffering from anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorders, he added.
