Etihad announces 5 new routes and 28 weekly flights to China

In one of its largest market expansions in years, Etihad Airways is massively boosting its presence in mainland China. The Abu Dhabi-based carrier is launching five new routes and adding 28 weekly flights, positioning Zayed International Airport (AUH) as a premier gateway between China and the rest of the world.

Weekly flights

The expansion brings Etihad’s total China operation to 35 weekly flights across six major destinations. Starting soon, you can fly direct from Abu Dhabi to:

  • Shanghai (PVG): The global financial and cargo hub.
  • Guangzhou (CAN): The manufacturing hub of Southern China.
  • Chengdu (TFU): Western China’s fast-growing tech centre.
  • Hangzhou (HGH): The leader in e-commerce and digital economy.
  • Shenzhen (SZX): The world’s ‘Silicon Valley’ and export powerhouse.
  • Beijing (PKX): Existing daily service continues.

The fleet

Travellers can expect a consistent, high-end experience. All new routes will be operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, featuring:

  • 28 Business Class studios.
  • 262 Economy seats.
  • Increased Cargo capacity to support global supply chains.

This isn’t just about vacations. The expansion is a strategic move to strengthen the UAE-China economic corridor. By partnering with China Eastern Airlines and SF Airlines (for cargo), Etihad is making it easier for goods and people to move between China, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
