Forever Young leads top global racehorses on Dubai World Cup night
The world’s leading racehorses have stepped up preparations for the upcoming Dubai World Cup night, with Japanese contender Forever Young emerging as a major attraction ahead of the Group 1 feature race offering a purse of $12 million at Meydan Racecourse.
Forever Young has returned to Dubai under the guidance of trainer Yoshito Yahagi, with Ryusei Sakai confirmed to ride. Connections report that the horse has settled well and completed a light training session on the dirt track, as it aims to improve on last year’s third-place finish and pursue a milestone as one of the highest-earning racehorses globally.
Several runners from the previous edition are also set to compete, including Hit Show, Walk Of Stars and Imperial Emperor. Their respective teams have expressed confidence in their preparations and competitiveness.
In the $6 million Dubai Sheema Classic, Irish trainer Willie Mullins is targeting a notable international double following recent success at the Cheltenham Festival. His contender, Ethical Diamond, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Turf, has reportedly shown encouraging form since arrival. Calandagan is also among the key runners, aiming to improve on a previous appearance.
The Dubai Turf is expected to feature a competitive lineup, with Facteur Cheval returning for a third attempt at the title after an earlier victory. Other contenders, including Fort George and Northern Champion, have continued preparations as scheduled.
In sprint action, Tuz is seeking to reclaim the Dubai Golden Shaheen title after winning in 2024. Trainer Bhupat Seemar confirmed the horse is in peak condition, alongside other runners from the same stable. The Al Quoz Sprint is set to include European contenders such as Monteille and Rayevka.
The UAE Derby will feature Brotherly Love, who arrives in strong form following a victory on the Road to the Kentucky Derby circuit. Jockey Saffie Osborne is also set to participate, aiming to become the first female rider to secure a win on Dubai World Cup night, amid a strong Japanese contingent.
Elsewhere, the Dubai Gold Cup includes leading contenders such as Al Nayyir, who has demonstrated solid readiness in recent training. The Godolphin Mile is expected to see a record six runners from a single trainer, led by Commissioner King.
In the Dubai Kahayla Classic, defending champion First Class returns following a recent victory in Saudi Arabia. Trainer Doug Watson confirmed the horse is fully prepared as it seeks a third title.
With final preparations underway, the depth of international participation and competitive readiness underscores the significance of Dubai World Cup night as a global showcase for elite horse racing.
