Future is now: Abu Dhabi rolls out AI that predicts health risks, before symptoms even show
Abu Dhabi isn’t waiting for you to get sick; it’s now using Artificial Intelligence to help you live a longer, healthier life, and it’s rolling out across every single hospital and clinic in the emirate.
Forget sci-fi movies; this is reality. The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has successfully deployed a new AI-powered patient risk profile that can predict your risk of getting serious illnesses, including diabetes and cancer, long before any symptoms appear.
Your Life, Scanned Since Birth
The true magic of the system lies in its data. The AI doesn’t just look at your last visit; it scans your entire health record since birth, analysing trends and subtle patterns that even the sharpest human eye might miss.
As Ibrahim Al Jallaf, Executive Director of Digital Health at DoH Abu Dhabi, explained during Gitex Global 2025: “Now the luxury is that it scans their entire health record since they were born. It looks at trends that even humans wouldn’t be able to catch… The result—people live longer, healthier lives, because you catch these things earlier.”
This tool specifically assesses the probability of developing 14 different diseases, instantly providing your doctor with a risk score and the reasons behind it.
The Three-Pillar Revolution
This groundbreaking move is part of the emirate’s larger, ambitious plan: a three-pillar healthcare strategy focused on achieving longevity, delivering best-in-class care, and enhancing system resilience. Simply put, Abu Dhabi is building a system designed to keep you thriving, not just recovering.
If you are an Abu Dhabi resident, this system covers you. Because of Malaffi, the emirate’s health information exchange, if you walk into any clinic or hospital for the very first time, the doctor instantly has your entire 360-degree health history and your patient risk profile.
AI is Your Doctor’s Best Assistant, Not a Replacement
Worried about a machine taking over? Don’t be. AI is here to support and equip doctors, not replace them.
The DoH has also integrated two Large Language Models (LLMs) into the ecosystem:
- Intelligent Physician Assistant: Helps doctors quickly pull the most relevant health data from your history so they can spend more time focusing on you.
- Sahatna App AI: Released recently within the popular Sahatna mobile app, this module allows residents to ask questions about their own health data or the healthcare sector in simple, natural language.
Ultimately, Abu Dhabi is making a major investment in data and technology to ensure its residents are among the healthiest and longest-living people in the world.
