Hollywood filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov mentors UAE talent in first Screenlife Film Accelerator programme

Renowned Hollywood filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov, the pioneer of the Screenlife film format, has teamed up with Image Nation Abu Dhabi to support emerging UAE storytellers through the country’s first-ever Screenlife Accelerator Programme.
Bekmambetov, best known for his work on films like Searching and Unfriended, partnered with his production company Bazelevs and Image Nation to launch the initiative in June 2024. The programme introduced UAE nationals and residents to the art of screenlife filmmaking, a unique storytelling style where the entire narrative unfolds on computer or smartphone screens.
After an intensive 12-week mentorship programme, 13 filmmakers were selected to produce pilot projects based on their original ideas. From these, eight standout winners were chosen to move forward with full script development and production support.
“This format isn’t just a new way to tell stories, it’s a tool for social impact,” said Bekmambetov. “Screenlife breaks down barriers in filmmaking. You don’t need a big budget or industry connections to share a story that matters. Our best screenlife films were made by first-time filmmakers, and I believe these UAE talents are next.”
Ben Ross, CEO of Image Nation Abu Dhabi, added that the partnership reflects the UAE’s growing influence in the global film industry. “We’re proud to work with Timur to bring this innovative format to local creatives. The level of talent we saw during the programme was outstanding, and we’re excited to bring these ideas to life.”
