Hood to Coast Dubai 2026: The world’s most iconic relay race comes to the desert

Dubai is set to host the Middle East debut of Hood to Coast, the world’s most iconic relay race, on January 10, 2026, at the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve.

Supported by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC), the event will unite citizens, residents, and visitors through a unique mix of sport, endurance, and teamwork, celebrating community spirit and Dubai’s commitment to an active lifestyle.

A Global Legacy Meets Dubai’s Spirit

First launched in Oregon, USA, in 1982, Hood to Coast has grown into the world’s largest and most recognised relay series, attracting over 80,000 runners annually. After successful editions in China and Europe, Dubai joins the global Hood to Coast family, reflecting the city’s reputation for innovation, diversity, and world-class sporting events.

Teams of three to five runners, supported by one 4×4 vehicle, will cover a 100 km+ route across Dubai’s desert, a test of endurance and teamwork set against some of the UAE’s most breathtaking natural landscapes.

The Route: A Journey Through Dubai’s Natural Heritage

Participants will run through the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve, highlighting Dubai’s focus on sustainability and nature preservation.
Key route highlights include:

  • Flamingo Lake and Al Qudra Lake
  • Golden Sand Dunes and the Dubai Solar Park
  • Stunning wildlife like Reem and Demani gazelles, Maha the Arabian Oryx, and the Ghaf tree, the UAE’s national symbol of resilience.

Strengthening Communities and Lifestyles

Hood to Coast Dubai supports the UAE National Sports Strategy 2031, which encourages lifelong physical activity and fosters communities built on wellness.

It also aligns with Dubai Social Agenda 33 and Dubai Economic Agenda D33, promoting healthier lifestyles and positioning Dubai among the world’s best cities to live, work, and play.

“Dubai’s readiness to host world-class sporting events reflects the competence of our national talents and the city’s continuous development in line with international standards,” said Saeed Hareb, Secretary General, Dubai Sports Council

The 2026 debut coincides with the UAE’s Year of Community, underscoring Dubai’s vision of inclusivity, belonging, and shared experiences.

All-Round Economic and Tourism Impact

The event is set to boost Dubai’s sports tourism sector by attracting international participants and spectators.
Expected benefits include:

  • Higher hotel occupancy and visitor spending across hospitality, retail, and dining sectors.
  • Job creation in logistics, event management, and support services.
  • Enhanced global visibility as a destination for sustainable, community-led sports events.
  • Increased tourist engagement through integrated travel and wellness packages.
