Massive climate-controlled cycling highway announced for Dubai

Dubai will soon be home to the smartest cycling and running platform in the world. The 93-kilometre, climate controlled highway, called ‘THE LOOP’ will be a sustainable urban highway that is climate-controlled year-round structure designed to promote cycling and walking. This new track aims to connect over three million residents using a “healthy mode of transport” that has access to key services and locations by walking for up to 20 minutes.

Currently at the research and development stage, Dubai-based developer URB said the project aims to create a “new benchmark” for the world’s smartest cycling and walking infrastructure. Inside the serpentine structure will be parks, playgrounds, greenery and other areas where people can hang out, relax, and enjoy life outside of a retail area. The Loop is set to provide a primary mode of transport for over 80 per cent of the city’s inhabitants, as well as being a place that brings together communities and provides leisure and wellness facilities.
