UAE National Rail Network project has taken a giant leap.
It has connected Abu Dhabi and Dubai with a direct railway line. The new development will unfold a new phase of logistic and economic integration between the two emirates. The integrated national railway network in the UAE envisages to link all the emirates.
With the main railway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai connected, the key part of Etihad Rail’s network has been achieved. The work comes within the framework of the UAE Railway Programme. The programme was launched as a part of the Projects of the 50, with an investment worth of $13,612,815,000. The programme will link the seven emirates and also create economic opportunities.
It intends to enhance UAE’s position as a leading regional and global centre in the sectors of trade, economy and logistics services.
“The completion of the main railway will enhance the strategic position of the project at the transport and infrastructure levels,” Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman at Etihad Railway, said. “It will also contribute to the promotion of sustainable development in the UAE.”
The length of the railway track is 256km and follows design based on the highest international standards and specifications concerned with environmental aspects, safety and quality. Goods transportation within the UAE will see a boost and transportation costs will be reduced with the introduction of this programme.
