Powell’s 96 powers Dubai Capitals to thumping win over Knight Riders

Rovman Powell produced a blistering unbeaten 96 to steer the Dubai Capitals to a commanding 83-run victory over the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the DP World ILT20 Season 4 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

After being asked to bat, the Capitals recovered from early setbacks to post 186/4, thanks to a dominant 119-run stand between Powell (96 off 52) and Jordan Cox (52). Powell exploded at the death, smashing two sixes and two fours in the final over, while Cox provided the perfect support through the middle overs.

In reply, the Knight Riders collapsed for 103 in 15.3 overs. David Willey struck twice in the first over, Mustafizur Rahman ripped through the top order, and Waqar Salamkheil claimed a four-wicket haul as the Capitals sealed their second-biggest win by runs in the tournament.

Phil Salt top-scored with 27, but resistance was brief as regular wickets kept the Knight Riders chasing the game. Mohammed Nabi and Salamkheil applied the squeeze in the middle, leaving the visitors with too much to do.

Earlier, despite dropped chances, the Capitals lost quick wickets in the powerplay before Powell and Cox took control. Powell later credited his approach against Sunil Narine and Piyush Chawla for setting up the win, while Knight Riders skipper Jason Holder admitted his side fell short in all three departments.

The victory marks the Capitals’ first win of the season and continues their strong record against the Knight Riders.
