
Final preparations have been made by the Dubai Police for cannon firing to announce the sighting of the new crescent and the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
Major Abdullah Tarish Al Amimi, commander of the artillery unit in the general department of protective security and emergency, said the cannons have been deployed in different sites across the emirates. These locations are Atlantis -the Palm, Al Seef, Al Waheda at Century Mall Dubai, Burj Khalifa and Hatta in front of Emirates Cooperative Society and Hatta Hill Park.
It will be for the first time ever that roaming cannons will be dispatched in 11 more areas: Al Lisaili near Al Nahda National School, Al Satwa near the Big Mosque, Al Qouz near Al Anbiya’a Mosque, Al Aweer near Sheikh Hamdan Mosque, Lahbab near Lahbab Community Park 1, Al Khawaneej near Ahmed Al Habbai Mosque, and Muhaisnah near Abdul Rahim Mohammed Kti Mosque.
The roaming cannons will stay for three days in these areas and for two days in the following sites: Al Warqa near the Big Mosque, Jebel Ali near Ibn Battuta Mall and Ain Dubai, Nad Al Sheba near Nad Al Sheba Park and Al Barsha near Al-Buhaira Park.
At the time of iftar, a single shot is fired. Two shots are fired to announce the start of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid.
