The UAE announced on Tuesday that petrol prices would increase for February. The committee increased the rates by up to 27 fils per litre after they decreased prices by up to 52 fils per litre in January.
Super 98 is set to see a near 10 percent rise to AED3.05 per litre, up from AED2.78 per litre. Special 95 is set to increase to AED2.93 per litre, up from AED2.67 per litre, while diesel prices will increase from AED3.29 per litre to AED3.38 per litre. Petrol prices in the UAE are set by the authorities and generally follow the movement of the global price of oil. Oil prices have remained up in January, with Brent crude, which represents around two thirds of the world’s oil, mostly holding steady above $80 per barrel. For the month of January, the Super 98 price was slashed Dh0.52 to Dh2.78 per litre, the Special 95 price was cut Dh0.51 to Dh2.67 and E-plus 91 rate was reduced to Dh2.59. For the past seven years, the fuel price committee has met on a monthly basis to announce revised rates.
