Why Bollywood star Preity Zinta felt sad after visiting Maha Kumbh Mela

In a journey that transcends the glitter and glamour of Bollywood, actor Preity Zinta recently immersed herself in the spiritual fervour of the Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Sharing her experience on social media, the popular actress offered a glimpse into her pilgrimage — one that was ‘magical’ but ‘sad’.
A series of photos and a video captured moments from her trip: serene temple visits, reflective walks along ancient pathways, a soul-cleansing dip at the Triveni Sangam, and quiet moments of prayer at Saraswati Koop.
In her Instagram post, Preity reflected on her visit to the grand festival, describing it as “magical, heartwarming but a bit sad.”
The magic, she explained, lay in the indescribable emotions that she experienced — a profound feeling. Moreover, the heartwarming moments were made special due to the presence of her mother, with whom she shared these sacred rituals.
“(It was sad because I wanted to be liberated from the various cycles of life and death only to realise the duality of life and attachment. Am I ready to let go of my family, my children and the people I love? No! I’m not,” Preity confessed in her post.
Her reflections reveal a soul grappling with the mysteries of existence. “It’s deeply moving and humbling when it dawns on you that the strings of attachment are strong and mighty,” she wrote, acknowledging that regardless of the path one chooses, the journey ahead remains solitary.
The Maha Kumbh Mela began on January 13, 2025, and is set to conclude on February 26. Several Bollywood celebrities, including Akshay Kumar, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Raveena Tandon, Juhi Chawla and Hema Malini, among other personalities have already visited the festival.
