Why this Dubai airline is suspending flights to a key European destination

flydubai has announced a temporary suspension of flights between Dubai International Airport and EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL) due to scheduled runway refurbishment.

The suspension will run from Thursday, April 16, to Friday, May 22, according to an operational update published on the airline’s website.

EuroAirport, which serves Basel in Switzerland, Mulhouse in France, and Freiburg in Germany, will undergo major works on its main runway, forcing long-haul routes, including flydubai’s, to be halted for more than a month. While the airport’s secondary runway will remain operational, it will not be used for Dubai-bound services.

flydubai launched its four-times-weekly direct service to Basel in 2024, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. All flights on this route will be cancelled during the refurbishment period.

Customers affected by the suspension are advised to contact the flydubai Contact Centre on (+971) 600 54 44 45, visit a flydubai travel shop, or reach out to their travel agent to explore rebooking or refund options.

Passengers are also encouraged to ensure their contact details are up to date by visiting Manage Your Booking on flydubai’s website and to regularly checking the status of their flights.

The temporary halt is being carried out for safety reasons, with services expected to resume once runway works are completed.
