Blue Note Records to mark International Jazz Day with revival show at Dubai Opera

Following a spectacular sold-out debut, the legendary sounds of Blue Note Records are set to return to the Dubai Opera stage on April 30. Celebrating International Jazz Day, this expanded production honours the 87-year legacy of the world’s most influential jazz label in a night defined by improvisation, virtuosity, and timeless cool.

Presented by MAC Global in collaboration with Dubai Opera, and boasting the prestigious support of UNESCO and the Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi, the event transcends a simple concert; it is a global cultural moment.

A lineup of international virtuosos

The 2026 edition promises a refreshed musical journey led by the renowned Pete Long (of London’s iconic Ronnie Scott’s). The stage will play host to an elite international ensemble featuring:

  • The Ensemble: Mark Armstrong, Simon Spillett, Liam Dunachie, Andy Cleyndert, and Seb De Krom.
  • Vocal Stylings: The captivating Sara Oschlag.
  • Special Guests: The Francesco Cafiso Duo, bringing a distinct layer of modern Italian lyricism and technical mastery to the programme.

Legacy reimagined

From the spiritual intensity of John Coltrane to the avant-garde innovations of Miles Davis, the evening will breathe new life into the Blue Note catalog. Rather than a mere nostalgic tribute, the performers will use these iconic compositions as a springboard for contemporary interpretation, ensuring the Blue Note spirit of bold expression remains as vibrant in 2026 as it was in 1939.

“Blue Note has always been about the Lion and the Wolf – the courage to innovate,” says a spokesperson for MAC Global. “Bringing this calibre of artistry back to Dubai Opera allows us to cement the city’s position as a global hub for high culture and world-class musical heritage.”
