Coming soon: UAE’s first cross-emirate hiking route from mountains to coast

Adventure seekers in the UAE can look forward to the country’s first cross-emirate hiking trail, as Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) and Fujairah team up to create a seamless mountain adventure corridor connecting two of the country’s most scenic emirates.

The new trail will span mountains, valleys (wadis), coastal areas, and desert landscapes, passing through Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest peak, located in RAK. It will offer hikers a unique experience blending natural beauty with adventure activities.

The project is part of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) and Fujairah Adventures, aimed at linking both emirates’ hiking networks and boosting eco-tourism.

“This is about connecting our trails and adventure experiences to create something truly special,” said Raki Phillips, CEO of RAKTDA.

“With our shared mountain ranges and the natural beauty of Jebel Jais and Fujairah’s coast, this partnership enhances the UAE’s position as a top destination for nature and adventure lovers.”

Amr Zein Eddin, Fujairah Adventures Center Manager, said: “This collaboration allows us to highlight the rich culture and heritage of both emirates.”

The connected trail will highlight existing outdoor attractions, including Jais Sledder, Jais Sky Tour, and Fujairah’s Sal Khail Trail and Alaqqah Coastal Ridge. The trail network will also touch lesser-known adventure spots like Jabal Mibrah, Showka, Mamadoh, and Esfini.

With RAK attracting 1.3 million visitors in 2024, the emirate aims to triple this number to 3.5 million by 2030, driven largely by domestic tourism. “People look at us as a place to escape and reconnect with nature,” Phillips said.
