Dubai unveils largest public art installation at Hatta’s Leem Lake

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, in partnership with the Supreme Committee to Oversee the Development of Hatta, has launched ‘Deliberate Pauses’, the largest site-specific public art installation in the emirate.
Created by Emirati artist Shaikha Al Mazrou and commissioned by Alserkal Arts Foundation, the installation is set along the scenic trails of Hatta’s Leem Lake, featuring five striking red metallic discs embedded in the rugged Hajar Mountains.
Curated by Faysal Tabbarah, Associate Professor at the American University of Sharjah, the artwork invites hikers to pause and reflect as they encounter the reflective discs, some upright, others flat, blending seamlessly with the landscape. The pieces act as visual markers and contemplative spaces, encouraging connection with Hatta’s natural beauty, history, and heritage.
Hala Badri, Director-General of Dubai Culture, said the project supports Hatta’s development plans and highlights the Authority’s commitment to empowering Emirati talent and encouraging innovation in public art.
Artist Shaikha Al Mazrou, who is a renowned sculptor, described the work as a moment of introspection.
“Public art helps people connect with their environment in ways that are often overlooked,” said Tabbarah.
