Emirates, Etihad announce flight delays and US cancellations amid snowstorm and UAE fog

Emirates has announced delays to flights arriving at and departing from Dubai International Airport due to heavy fog and reduced visibility across parts of the UAE.

Emirates apologised for the inconvenience caused, stating that the safety of its passengers and crew remains its highest priority and will not be compromised. The airline also advised customers to check their flight status on its official website for the latest updates.

UAE weather authorities earlier warned residents after dense fog reduced visibility in several areas of the country.

Meanwhile, Emirates confirmed additional cancellations on routes to and from the United States due to the severe impact of a snowstorm affecting parts of the country. The airline said the following flights between Dubai and US destinations, including connecting services, will be cancelled on February 23 and 24:

  • EK204 (Feb 23): New York (JFK) – Dubai
  • EK209 (Feb 23): Athens – Newark (EWR)
  • EK210 (Feb 23/24): Newark (EWR) – Athens
  • EK237 (Feb 23): Dubai – Boston (BOS)
  • EK238 (Feb 23): Boston (BOS) – Dubai
  • EK201 (Feb 23): Dubai – New York (JFK)
  • EK202 (Feb 24): New York (JFK) – Dubai
  • EK205 (Feb 23): Milan – New York (JFK)
  • EK206 (Feb 24): New York (JFK) – Milan
  • EK203 (Feb 23): Dubai – New York (JFK)
  • EK204 (Feb 24): New York (JFK) – Dubai

The airline stated that passengers connecting to New York, Newark and Boston on the cancelled services “will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin.” Affected passengers have been advised to contact their travel agent or Emirates directly for rebooking options.

Abu Dhabi cancellations

Etihad Airways has also announced cancellations on several US-bound services due to the snowstorm. The impacted flights include:

  • EY001 / EY002 (Feb 23/24): Abu Dhabi (AUH) – New York (JFK) – Abu Dhabi
  • EY003 / EY004 (Feb 23): Abu Dhabi (AUH) – New York (JFK) – Abu Dhabi
  • EY007 / EY008 (Feb 23): Abu Dhabi (AUH) – Boston (BOS) – Abu Dhabi

Etihad said further delays or cancellations may occur depending on weather conditions. The airline added that affected passengers are being assisted with rebooking options or full refunds.

Both carriers have urged travellers to monitor official channels for the latest updates and check flight statuses before heading to the airport.
