How September’s fuel price changes will impact your monthly drive in the UAE

Motorists in the UAE will need to factor in a small increase in their travel budgets from September 1, as petrol prices edge up by one fils per litre. This means filling up a compact car (51L tank) will cost about Dh0.51 more, a sedan (62L) about Dh0.62 extra, and an SUV (74L) roughly Dh0.74 more compared to August.

For diesel users, however, there’s welcome relief: with a 12 fils per litre cut, a full tank will cost significantly less, saving Dh6 to Dh9 per fill-up, depending on the vehicle size.

The revised rates were announced by the UAE Fuel Price Monitoring Committee and take effect on September 1.

Here’s the month-on-month comparison:

Petrol

  • Super 98: Dh2.70 (September) vs Dh2.69 (August)
  • Special 95: Dh2.58 (September) vs Dh2.57 (August)
  • E-Plus 91: Dh2.51 (September) vs Dh2.50 (August)

Diesel

  • Diesel: Dh2.66 (September) vs Dh2.78 (August)

What this means for drivers

  • Filling a 51-litre compact car tank with Special 95 will cost about Dh 131.6 in September, compared to Dh131.1 in August.
  • A 62-litre sedan tank will cost Dh159.96, up from Dh159.34.
  • A 74-litre SUV tank will cost Dh190.92, up from Dh190.18.
  • Diesel vehicle owners, however, will benefit; a 74-litre tank will cost Dh196.84 in September, down from Dh205.72 in August.

The Ministry of Energy adjusts fuel prices each month based on global oil rates, after factoring in distribution and operating costs.
