No Driver? No problem. Robots now deliver groceries in Dubai

Dubai residents can now receive their groceries in a futuristic way, as Yango Group, a global tech company, partners with food tech and retail firm ROOTS to introduce autonomous delivery robots in Sobha Hartland. These robots independently navigate streets, avoid obstacles, and ensure pedestrian safety while making grocery deliveries efficiently in an eco-friendly way.

Smart and Eco-Friendly Deliveries

Yango Group has secured a license from Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to deploy these robots, which can deliver groceries within a two-kilometre radius in under 30 minutes. Equipped with high-precision maps and neural networks, the robots recognise traffic signals, road signs, and other environmental factors. With a cargo compartment capacity of 60 litres, they can transport various grocery items, including dairy products, fresh fruits, and pre-packed meals, all stored under optimal temperature conditions.

“We are excited to provide our community in Sobha Hartland with this innovative delivery option from Yango Group. It’s a game changer for local retail delivery, reducing wait times and supporting sustainability efforts,” said Florian Jansen, Founder of ROOTS.

How It Works

Customers can place orders through the ROOTS website (go-roots.ae) and select the robot delivery option. Once the order is ready, a robot is dispatched to the customer’s location, and upon arrival, a notification is sent via WhatsApp for order retrieval.

Designed to withstand the region’s diverse weather conditions, these robots align with Dubai’s Autonomous Transportation Strategy, which aims to convert 25 per cent of the city’s transportation to autonomous modes by 2030. This initiative is expected to cut CO₂ emissions by 30 per cent and improve urban mobility.

“The introduction of self-driving delivery robots reflects our commitment to using modern technology to reduce congestion, lower emissions, and enhance last-mile logistics services for residents and businesses alike,” said Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of Dubai’s Public Transport Agency.

Future Expansion

Islam Abdul Karim, Regional Head of Yango Group Middle East, said: “We are thrilled to advance autonomous delivery technology in Dubai, offering residents a seamless way to receive their goods.”

With the success of this robotic delivery rollout, Yango Group plans to expand its partnerships in Dubai’s retail and logistics sectors further, ushering in a new era of smart urban delivery solutions
