Perseids meteor shower to light up UAE skies tonight: Here’s where to watch

UAE residents can look forward to one of the year’s most spectacular celestial events as the Perseids meteor shower peaks on the nights of August 12 and 13. Known for producing bright streaks and occasional fireballs, meteors brighter than Venus and sometimes accompanied by sound, the Perseids promise an unforgettable night-sky show.
The shower, active since mid-July and continuing until late August, will be partially affected by the moon’s brightness, which will create light pollution, cutting meteor visibility by roughly 75 per cent compared to a dark, moonless night.
Best viewing
According to the Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG), the best time to watch is after midnight until dawn from a dark location away from city lights. No special equipment is needed, just patience and 20–30 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark.
Special event at Jebel Jais
On Tuesday, August 12, DAG will host a Perseids Meteor Shower Viewing Event at Jebel Jais from 11pm to 3am, featuring guided stargazing, telescope observations, storytelling, and expert commentary. Stargazers won’t need telescopes or binoculars, just patience, and 20–30 minutes for the eyes to adapt to the dark.
