Spartan announces first indoor obstacle race to UAE this September

The Middle East’s Spartan tribe is about to face a whole new kind of challenge, indoors. For the first time in the region, Spartan Middle East, in partnership with ITP Media Group, will host a Spartan ‘City’ race inside Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena on September 20.
This new format packs 15 signature Spartan obstacles into a fast-paced 3km course, mostly within the arena’s climate-controlled setting, with a short outdoor segment for good measure. Open to participants aged 14 and above, the event is designed for speed, intensity, and accessibility, perfect for everyone from first-time racers to seasoned Spartans and corporate teams looking for a team-building challenge.
For the young Spartans
Kids aged 4–14 can also get in on the action with dedicated races:
- 1km for ages 4–6
- 1.5km for ages 7–9
- 3km for ages 9–14
Every finisher, young or adult, will earn a Spartan T-shirt, medal, and a banana to recharge after crossing the line.
A growing phenomenon in the UAE
The announcement comes after a record-breaking year for Spartan Middle East, including 5,500 participants at its recent Bab Al Shams event and 6,000 racers at January’s inaugural Trifecta weekend at Dubai Parks and Resorts.
Backed by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the Spartan ‘City’ race builds on the emirate’s reputation as a global Spartan hotspot, following the successful hosting of the Spartan World Championship in Al Wathba.
A world-class venue
Set along Yas Bay, Etihad Arena, the largest indoor multipurpose venue in the Middle East, offers state-of-the-art facilities, easy access, and a full range of amenities. Spectators can enjoy food, refreshments, and a lively atmosphere while cheering racers on.
