This new Louvre Abu Dhabi tour lets you see the dome like never before
For the first time, visitors can step inside one of the UAE’s most iconic architectural landmarks. The Louvre Abu Dhabi has launched a new ‘Architectural Experience’ tour, giving guests rare access to its stunning dome, an area that was previously off-limits.
A closer look at the iconic dome
Designed by renowned architect Jean Nouvel, the museum’s 180-metre-wide dome is famous for its breathtaking ‘rain of light’ effect.
Sunlight filters through 7,850 intricate aluminium stars, created by an eight-layered structure—producing the mesmerising light patterns visitors see below.
Now, you can experience this design from the inside.
What the tour includes
The guided experience takes visitors through seven curated stops across the museum, led by expert educators.
Along the way, you’ll explore:
- The dome’s engineering and design secrets
- Its connection to Emirati heritage
- The cultural symbolism behind the structure
The highlight? A walk inside the dome itself, offering a completely new perspective on how the museum was built over the sea.
Each guest receives a copy of “Louvre Abu Dhabi: Story of an Architectural Project”, offering deeper insights into the vision and challenges behind the museum’s creation.
When to go
The museum is open daily from 10am to midnight, with the dome accessible during the same hours. For the most striking views, plan your visit around sunset, when the light effect is at its peak.
