UAE travel alert: Jebel Jais closes all attractions after heavy rain; safety checks underway

All activities at Jebel Jais have been temporarily suspended following adverse weather conditions that affected the area between December 17 and 19.

Authorities confirmed that recent rainfall led to standing water across parts of the UAE’s highest mountain, prompting precautionary road closures, targeted maintenance work and comprehensive safety assessments. Operations will remain closed until further notice while specialist teams inspect the site and ensure safety standards are met.

The closure impacts all major attractions at Jebel Jais, including the Jais Flight zipline, 1484 by Puro, Red Rock BBQ, Via Ferrata, Bear Grylls Explorers Camp and yoga sessions at Jais Viewing Deck Park.

Officials acknowledged that winter is peak season for Jebel Jais but stressed that visitor safety remains the top priority. Residents and visitors have also been advised to avoid camping in wadis during unsettled weather, as standing water could cause shifting rocks and slippery paths. While hiking and climbing areas have not been officially shut, people are urged to exercise extreme caution.

The move follows a spell of unstable weather across the UAE, with heavy rain and thunderstorms reported in several emirates. According to the National Centre of Meteorology, the main rainfall has passed, though cooler temperatures and occasional showers may continue.

A phased reopening will be implemented once assessments are complete, with updates to be shared through official Jebel Jais channels.

Rising 1,934 metres above sea level in Ras Al Khaimah’s Hajar mountain range, Jebel Jais is a major hub for adventure tourism and home to the world’s longest zipline.
