Drive to sensitise e-scooter riders after accidents rise
There has been a sudden spurt in accidents involving electric scooters. It’s not just the riders who are at risk, but the pedestrians too.
What causes these accidents? It’s mostly the riders, who breach traffic rules despite warnings from the Dubai Police.
An awareness campaign to sensitize and educate the e-scooter riders about the rules and regulations was recently launched by the General Department of Traffic in Dubai Police. The campaign gives the riders instructions they should follow, while respecting the rules. The drive tells them about the roads and paths designated for this type of transport, as well as security and safety requirements.
Wearing protective helmets is a must and parking the vehicle at designated places is very important, the police underline.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, has exhorted e-scooter riders to maintain a proper distance between vehicles and people walking on footpaths. He also said that the riders shouldn’t hold or carry any materials that may affect the balance of the e-scooter.
The campaign was launched in Al Rigga Street, Al Muraqqabat Street, and Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard. The Dubai Police urged e-scooter riders to gives utmost priority to road safety and be mindful while riding.
