Dubai launches road safety film festival with Dh300,000 in prizes

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the second edition of its Road Safety Film Festival, with up to Dh300,000 in cash prizes and recognition awards up for grabs.

The 2026 festival aims to use short films and digital storytelling to promote safer driving and encourage greater awareness of road safety.

Entries open August 24

Submissions will be accepted from August 24 to November 22, through RTA’s dedicated website.

The competition is open to individuals, university students, government entities, private-sector companies and the wider community.

The festival follows the success of its first edition in 2025, which received more than 100 entries.

Three categories up for grabs

The Individuals and University Students category includes awards for:

  • Best Road Safety Awareness Film on Safe Driving
  • Best Innovative Road Safety Awareness Film Using Modern Technologies

For each, winners will receive Dh30,000 for first place, Dh20,000 for second and Dh10,000 for third.

The Community category features the Best Family Road Safety Awareness Film, introduced as part of the Year of Family, along with a category highlighting the experiences of traffic accident victims.

Each of these categories carries the same Dh30,000, Dh20,000 and Dh10,000 prize structure.

The Government Entities and Private-Sector Companies category will recognise organisations for their contribution to road safety, with winners receiving recognition trophies.

Winning films to feature in RTA campaigns

The accident victims category is designed to highlight the real-life consequences of unsafe driving and traffic violations while encouraging greater responsibility among road users.

RTA plans to use winning entries in its traffic awareness programmes, educational lectures, workshops and road safety campaigns. The films will also be shared across RTA’s digital platforms.

The festival forms part of RTA’s wider Traffic Safety and Awareness Strategy, which is guided by the goal of “Zero Fatalities” and aims to improve Dubai’s road safety performance.
