UAE Skies Set to Illuminate: Witness ‘Da Vinci Glow’on August 12
Sky gazers in the UAE will be able to see a unique celestial event on Monday, when the crescent Moon will be illuminated by sunlight reflected off the Earth. The Earthshine phenomenon, also known as the “da Vinci glow”, will be visible in UAE skies shortly after sunset.
This enchanting phenomenon occurs around sunset when a crescent moon’s thin sliver still reveals a ghostly outline of the full moon.
Named after Leonardo da Vinci, this ethereal light, known as ‘earthshine,’ happens when sunlight reflects off Earth’s surface and illuminates the moon’s dark side.
In addition to the Da Vinci glow, August is a stellar month for stargazing with the Perseid meteor shower peaking around 12 to 13 August.
The Perseids, famous for their dazzling displays, can produce up to 100 meteors per hour. These meteors are remnants of Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, which last passed near the Sun in 1992, leaving behind a trail of debris that lights up our night sky as Earth passes through it.
To enjoy these celestial spectacles, find a dark, remote spot away from city lights. You don’t need any special equipment – just patience and a clear sky
Prepare for an unforgettable night of cosmic wonders!
