When is the next UAE public holiday? Here’s what to know about the August break

After the long summer stretch, UAE residents could have another break to look forward to. The next public holiday is expected to mark the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (PBUH), which is forecast to fall on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, based on astronomical calculations.

But thanks to the UAE’s public holiday transfer rules, there’s a possibility the holiday could instead be observed on Monday, August 24, creating a welcome three-day weekend for public and private sector employees.

Nothing has been confirmed yet. Like all Islamic holidays, the date remains subject to the official moon sighting, while any decision to move the holiday must be announced by the UAE Cabinet closer to the occasion. Here’s everything residents need to know about the next public holiday, how the transfer rule works, and how you could turn it into an even longer break.
