YouTube star’s glassy gain: $11m in 11 days
YouTube star, Aboflah, raised a whopping $11 million (Dh40.4 million) after living in a glass box at Burj Park Downtown Dubai for 11 days. The money was raised for charity – to keep more than 110,000 families warm in the region over the cold winter period.
Aboflah (aka Hassan Suleiman) left his glassy abode after being locked up since January 7. He exceeded his initial $10 million target that endeavoured to support 100,000 families as part of the UAE’s Warm Winter initiative, held under the second edition of World’s Coolest Winter campaign.
The social media phenom live streamed his experience to over 23.7 million YouTube subscribers and succeeded at attracting 154,789 global donors to raise funds. The money will be used to provide food, winter clothing, blankets, mattresses and critical aid to over 110,000 refugee families across the region.
His celebration was broadcasted on the Burj Khalifa and cheered on by hundreds of attendees at Burj Park, Downtown Dubai.
This feat of excellence doesn’t end here. AboFlah also broke two world records – for having the longest live-streaming video, which lasted 11 days and 14 minutes and for the most viewers for a charity donation live stream on YouTube.
