Abu Dhabi enters global entertainment race with new Sphere project
After turning heads in Las Vegas with its giant glowing exterior and fully immersive concert experiences, Sphere is officially heading to Abu Dhabi.
Sphere Entertainment Company has announced a partnership with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism to develop the second Sphere venue in the world, bringing one of the most futuristic entertainment concepts on the planet to the UAE capital.
The original Sphere in Las Vegas became a global sensation thanks to its massive LED-covered exterior, 360-degree immersive screens, next-level sound systems and sensory effects that make audiences feel fully inside the performance rather than simply watching it.
Now Abu Dhabi is preparing to build its own version, and expectations are already sky-high.
While the exact location and opening date have not yet been revealed, the project is expected to become a major addition to Abu Dhabi’s growing cultural and entertainment scene.
The venue is designed to go far beyond traditional concerts. Visitors can expect immersive shows blending music, visuals, technology and interactive experiences on a scale rarely seen before.
The move also strengthens Abu Dhabi’s wider cultural ambitions, especially as the emirate continues expanding the Saadiyat Cultural District and investing heavily in global entertainment and tourism projects.
Sphere’s success in Las Vegas has been massive. According to industry reports, the venue attracted around 1.7 million visitors in just one year and generated hundreds of millions in revenue.
Based on project timelines, pre-construction work was reportedly nearing completion by August 2025, with design finalisation expected during the first half of 2026. If construction begins shortly after, a possible opening sometime in 2028 or early 2029 appears realistic.
For UAE residents, it means one thing: Abu Dhabi’s entertainment future is about to get a lot more futuristic.
