January 26 is not just your normal day; it marks the occasion of both Indian Republic Day and Australia Day. Here are few places to visit so you can enjoy some spices or steaks. We won’t make you choose, but we can definitely give you some tough choices to make. Let’s get into it.
India’s Republic Day
The Indian Republic Day commemorates the spirit of an independent and individual India. On this day in 1930, the Indian Congress declared the country’s independence from colonial rule. Now, let us tell you where the masala is…
1. Jehangirs
This modern Mughlai restaurant in Mankhool is in a complete celebratory mood offering everything extravagant from delicacies to mocktails to ambience and special discounts. 2. Mumbai Spices
Indian street-food major Mumbai Spices officially opened in Dubai, launching a month-long ‘Biryani and Chaat festival to commemorate the 73rd Indian Republic Day. The theme is unique, capturing the essence of street food varieties from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The fun doesn’t stop there as customers will be able to avail of a 50 per cent discount on the special menu for the Biyani and Chaat festival – all the way until February 25.
3. Dhaba Lane
Known for serving Indian Dhaba-styled gourmet food amidst a cool and chic urban setting, Dhaba Lane is serving up tri-colour delicacies to celebrate the occasion. The stars on the menu will be the Tiranga (Tri-colour) Shots, Tiranga Chicken Tikka, and Tiranga Paneer Tikka. The tri-coloured appetizers are priced at Dh26 and each shot will be offered as a complimentary welcome drink. You can check the restaurant out at its two branches in Karama and Garhoud.
Australia Day
The first national day is observed annually on January 26 and marks the landing of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1778. Enough with the history less; in present-day Australia celebrates to reflect the diverse society and landscape of the nation. Unofficially also called Anniversary Day, here’s where you can eat in DXB to mark the occasion.
1. Grove Road
The Australian bistro at the Pointe, Palm Jumeirah is an Aussie special here in DXB. You can indulge in a classic chicken parma, meat pies, fish and chips and a Bunnings-style snag. Tuck in, mate!
2. Jones the Grocer
Want that succulent Aussie burger? Jones the Grocer is your spot. The Sydney-born cafe chain is serving massive loaded burgers and nostalgic desserts, including pavlovas, vanilla slice and lamingtons. Pretty dardy, ain’t it?
3. Bull & Roo
Bull & Roo’s menu features premium Australian cuts, including Wagyu, Onyx and Stockyard. Located at JLT, MOE and DIFC, this is one you shouldn’t miss. We may not be down under but we can definitely down one of those steaks.
