Eid Al Adha holidays announced for UAE public sector

UAE has officially announced that the public sector employees in the UAE will have the opportunity to enjoy a six-day break in celebration of Eid Al Adha, according to a circular issued by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources. The holiday will commence on Tuesday, June 27 and continue until Friday, June 30, with work resuming on Monday, July 3.

The UAE Cabinet, in its designated list of public and private sector holiday dates for 2023, has allocated four days for Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha. This significant religious festival falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar, and coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah, which is obligatory for all able Muslims at least once in their lifetime. In the UAE, residents may enjoy either a five-day or a six-day weekend for the Eid Al Adha holiday. The duration will depend on the sighting of the Moon, which determines the start and end of Islamic Hijri calendar months.

According to the Gregorian calendar, Eid Al Adha (also known as the Festival of Sacrifice), will be celebrated from Tuesday, June 27, till Sunday, July 2 (including the weekend). Since the Islamic calendar is based on a lunar system, the confirmed dates will be announced once the Zul Hijjah moon is sighted in June.
