Everything you need to know about the Museum of the Future
The Museum of the Future, one of the most highly-anticipated landmarks of this year, is all set to finally open its doors to the public tomorrow. I mean, the museum isn’t even open yet and it’s already become an iconic image, recognizable in an instant because of its striking design and unconventional shape. As you drive past it on the Sheikh Zayed Road, there’s no way you’ll miss it and there’s definitely no way you won’t be mesmerised by it.
The idea
The source of inspiration for ‘the most beautiful building in the world’ lies in its name – the future. Designed to echo Dubai’s vision for the future, the structure reflects what we know and understand about the future today, and what it might look like ten years down the line.
The void in the middle of the structure is symbolic of all that we don’t know yet but also of the infinite drive of the entrepreneurs and innovators who continue to seek the unknown. Their desire will lead mankind towards a better tomorrow and will add new life to the cycle of searching for the answers.
The green hill which bolsters the building represents the finality and solidity of the Earth, evocative of the permanence of its elements.
The architecture
Besides the unique and carefully thought-out design, the technical process of making this building a reality was marked by several innovations including low-energy and low-water engineering solutions, integrated renewables, low carbon planning and passive solar architecture.
The building stands 78-metre tall and houses 6 exhibition halls, 1 administration floor above a 3-storey podium, a F+B deck, an auditorium, retail stores, parking and other services.
The calligraphy
The beautiful calligraphy design on the exterior of the structure is casted in stainless steel and comprises of a series of windows that form a poem by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, about his vision for the city’s future.
The exhibits
Some of the incredible, immersive exhibits include ‘Journey to the Future’, an experience that will engage all the senses. Take a trip to 2071, witness the possibilities for the future, and return to the present with ideas to make it a better place.
‘Future Heroes’ is an exhibit focused on children, aiming to teach them the skills they will use to become pioneers for the future. Learning through play and fun, they will explore the thinkers within through activities that encourage communication, collaboration and creativity.
