New Spartan challenge lands in Abu Dhabi this June
Fitness fans in Abu Dhabi have something to look forward to, as Spartan Middle East brings back its indoor city race to Etihad Arena on Saturday, June 13.
After drawing more than 2,000 participants in its debut edition, the event returns with a simple but intense concept: a full Spartan-style obstacle race, moved indoors.
What to expect
The race features a 3km course with 15 obstacles, designed to test speed, strength and stamina—all within a climate-controlled arena, making it a more comfortable option during the summer months.
Participants can expect a mix of:
- Climbing and crawling challenges
- Strength-based obstacles
- Fast-paced endurance sections
While there’s a small outdoor segment, most of the course takes place inside one of the region’s largest indoor venues.
For beginners, teams and families
The ‘City’ format is designed to be accessible and inclusive, making it suitable for:
- First-timers looking for a manageable challenge
- Regular racers aiming to beat personal records
- Corporate teams seeking a team-building experience
Families can also get involved, with Spartan Kids races running alongside the main event. Distances range from 1km for younger children to 3km for teens, with medals and race-day rewards waiting at the finish line.
More than just a race
Supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Yas Bay Waterfront, the event reflects Abu Dhabi’s growing focus on fitness-led community experiences.
With food, entertainment and a lively atmosphere, it’s shaping up to be a full day out for participants and spectators alike.
How to join
Registration is now open via the official Spartan website (arabia.spartan.com).
