New lakes, roads and tourism spots coming to Kalba soon
His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has announced a series of major development projects in Kalba set to be inaugurated in December this year, marking a significant milestone in the city’s long-term transformation.
Speaking during a call on the ‘Direct Line’ programme, he said the projects are part of a seven-year development journey aimed at enhancing the quality of life and delivering long-term stability for residents.
“For seven years, we have been working without stopping to develop the city of Kalba,” the Sharjah Ruler said, adding that several landmark projects are now ready for launch.
Ready to open
Among the major developments set for inauguration:
- Jebel Deem, featuring roads, landscaping and rest areas
- Al Hiyar area, including a lake and leisure facilities
- Wadi Al Helo roads and infrastructure upgrades
- Kalba corniche enhancements
- Compensation housing projects for residents
A standout addition is the upcoming Khor Kalba City, a heritage-inspired destination near the University of Kalba. The project will transform existing homes into hotel-style lodges, alongside forts and mosques designed with historical and archaeological consideration.
New roads and leisure spaces
Authorities are also accelerating infrastructure works, including:
- A road parallel to Al Wahda Street
- A new link from the corniche to the ring road
- A major roundabout near a historic fort
Meanwhile, the Al Furaish Lake project, stretching around 750 metres, is being developed into a family-friendly park with walking areas, greenery and scenic features such as waterfalls flowing toward the sea.
‘Above the Clouds’ on track
Dr Sheikh Sultan also confirmed that the much-anticipated ‘Above the Clouds’ rest area is on track to open by late 2026 or early 2027, adding another unique attraction to Kalba’s growing tourism offering.
