Studio Ghibli exhibition in Abu Dhabi gets new 2027 dates

Fans of Japanese animation across the UAE will need to wait a little longer, but the anticipation just got bigger. The much-awaited World of Studio Ghibli exhibition has officially been rescheduled and will now open in Abu Dhabi from June 4 to 29, 2027.

Set to take place at Manarat Al Saadiyat, the exhibition marks the first time Studio Ghibli brings its iconic worlds to the capital, something many expats and longtime anime fans in the region have been hoping for.

Originally planned for May 2026, the delay has only added to the excitement, with organisers promising a fully immersive experience that captures the charm and detail of the studio’s most beloved films.

Visitors will step into 16 themed galleries, each recreating scenes from classics like My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service and Princess Mononoke. From waiting in the rain with Totoro to exploring the moving corridors of Howl’s Moving Castle, the experience is designed to feel like stepping inside the films themselves.

Fans of Spirited Away can even relive one of its most memorable moments, boarding a train alongside No Face, bringing a sense of nostalgia that resonates strongly with many expats who grew up watching these stories.

Beyond the visual spectacle, the exhibition also leans into storytelling and craftsmanship. Interactive installations and detailed displays will give visitors a closer look at the artistry behind each frame, from whimsical settings like Kiki’s world to intimate moments such as Satsuki’s letter to her mother in Totoro.

An exclusive audio trail will guide guests through behind-the-scenes insights, offering a deeper understanding of how these timeless films were created. Each visit is expected to last between 60 and 90 minutes, making it an easy addition to a cultural day out in Abu Dhabi.

The exhibition is open to all ages, though visitors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Entry is free for children under three, making it a family-friendly outing for UAE residents looking to share a piece of cinematic nostalgia with the next generation.
