Sri Lanka waives tourist visa fees for Emirati travellers
Sri Lanka has introduced a new visa policy allowing UAE citizens to obtain free tourist visas for short-term visits.
According to Sri Lanka’s Immigration and Emigration Authority, eligible travellers can now apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) without paying visa fees.
The newly introduced visa arrangement allows Emirati travellers to stay in Sri Lanka for up to 30 days and includes double-entry privileges during the validity period, beginning from the traveller’s first arrival in the country.
Officials stated that visitors wishing to extend their stay beyond the initial 30-day period can still apply for a visa extension, although additional charges will apply for the extended stay.
Authorities also clarified that travellers who paid visa fees before the new policy came into effect on May 25 will not be eligible for refunds.
The initiative forms part of Sri Lanka’s broader efforts to encourage international tourism and attract more visitors from key global travel markets.
Alongside the UAE, the free visa programme also applies to citizens from several major countries, including the United Kingdom, the US, Australia, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait.
The latest move is expected to boost tourism arrivals ahead of the upcoming holiday and travel seasons as Sri Lanka continues strengthening its position as a popular destination for international visitors.
